Scientific Committee of the Cybersecurity Department Holds Meeting to Discuss Curriculum Development and Academic Plans
The Scientific Committee of the Cybersecurity Department at the College of Information Technology held its second regular meeting on Monday, May 25, 2025, chaired by Professor Dr. Ali Maki Sagheer. The meeting was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Hussein Ali, Lecturer Dr. Omar Abdulmajeed Hamoud, Lecturer Dr. Ahmed Hadi Farhan, and Lecturer Dr. Yasser Hadi Farhan.
The meeting was also attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and faculty member of the department, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Salah Farhan, as well as the Head of the Cybersecurity Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Abduljabbar AlSabhany.
The committee discussed the department's curriculum and academic plan, with particular emphasis on the intended learning outcomes across different courses and academic stages. The discussion also included a review of updated practical curricula designed to align with the rapidly evolving demands of the labor market and the requirements of the cybersecurity profession. In addition, the committee reviewed the centralized assessment examination subjects for equivalent departments and discussed mechanisms for implementing the latest directives, circulars, and instructions issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
As part of its evaluation of the practical aspects of the program, the committee conducted a field visit to the department's laboratories to assess the status of practical training and the students' level of performance. During the visit, members reviewed hands-on activities related to the simulation of cyberattacks and defensive security techniques within isolated training environments, utilizing specialized systems and software, including Kali Linux, Nmap, Wireshark, Burp Suite, and Packet Tracer.
The meeting concluded with a number of recommendations, including proposed modifications to the study plan and a reaffirmation of the importance of strengthening practical and applied components within the curriculum. These efforts aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the evolving demands of the cybersecurity workforce.
